FREE SHOW STARS TOP ARTISTS
CARVED oak heads mounted on spikes and aerosol art will feature amongst the fascinating attractions of a major free showcase event starring dozens of the finest artists in West Yorkshire.
The public is being given open access to over 50 top artists at work in traditional artists’ studios and at prestigious gallery spaces during the Huddersfield Open Studio Trail 2006 - HOST 06 - from Friday November 17 to Sunday November 19.
The dazzling array of creations on view will range from quirky jewellery, to contemporary outdoor furniture and hip womenswear. There’s a homage to Andy Warhol pop art, reinterpreted for a contemporary Asian experience, aerosol art on canvas and 36 carved oak heads on spikes representing the spirits of 500 years of departed ancestors.
As well as the chance to watch the artists at work, there will be the opportunity to buy or commission a unique creation from digital art to ceramics, textiles, paintings and much more.
HOST06 is organised by the Creative Industries Development Agency (CIDA), which has overseen a remarkable growth in the event since it was first staged three years ago.
Venues throwing open their doors to the public for the weekend include Huddersfield University, Radiant Works, Bates Mill, Kirklees Media Centre and Huddersfield Art Gallery.
The North Light Gallery will showcase over 50 more of the region’s best creative talents in a special HOST exhibition in the prestigious gallery at Armitage Bridge. The HOST06 trail also leads to artists working just outside the town in Slaithwaite, Marsden, Holme and Honley.
Tickets are not required and the public can go to any venue over the weekend for free and there will even be a free bus operating along the trail.
Free parties will also be staged at each venue to launch HOST06 during a public preview night on Friday November 17.
